Our Take on Hoegaarden

At DubaiBottles, we believe that some beers are more than just drinks. They are legends. Hoegaarden is a true Belgian legend. This is the beer that revived and defined the witbier style. The style had all but disappeared until the 1960s. Born in the small Belgian village of Hoegaarden, where brewing has been a tradition since the Middle Ages, Hoegaarden is a beer that embodies the spirit of Belgian craftsmanship and innovation. With its distinctive cloudy appearance, refreshing taste, and unique blend of coriander and orange peel, it has become one of the world’s most beloved beers.

Serving Tips from Our Cellar

Hoegaarden is best enjoyed well‑chilled. Ideally served at a temperature of 4–6°C. Store it in the fridge for a few hours before serving. For the perfect pour, use a chilled, tulip-shaped glass and pour slowly. Leave the sediment in the can to achieve the signature cloudy appearance. If you’re ordering delivery in Dubai, we recommend chilling it as soon as it arrives for the perfect drinking experience.

The Story Behind Hoegaarden

Hoegaarden’s story begins in the Middle Ages. In the Belgian village of Hoegaarden, a distinct style of white beer emerged. This style was brewed using unmalted wheat, which gave it a pale colour and a refreshing, slightly tart character. Over the centuries, the beer became less popular. By the 1950s, the last witbier brewery in Hoegaarden had closed its doors, seemingly ending the tradition.

Then, in 1966, a young milkman named Pierre Celis decided to revive the style. Armed with a passion for brewing and a determination to preserve his village’s heritage, he started brewing his own version of the traditional recipe in his own backyard. His beer was an immediate success. Within a few years, Hoegaarden had become a global phenomenon.

In 1987, the brewery was sold to Brouwerij Artois, which later became part of the Interbrew group. Despite its growth and global reach, Hoegaarden has remained true to its roots. It continues to brew its iconic witbier using the same traditional recipe that Pierre Celis revived over 50 years ago. Today, it is one of the world’s most recognised and beloved beers, enjoyed in over 80 countries. Discover more on the official Hoegaarden website.
